They produce an average of 5,340 kilowatt hours of solar energy a day.
As a result, Malouf has achieved a zero score in the Zero Energy Performance Index, a measurement developed by the nonprofit Zero Energy Project. A zero energy building is one that produces the same amount of energy that it uses in a year.
“Being responsible as a business and as a member of the community is something that will always be important to us,” said Sam Malouf, chief executive officer. “We’ve grown rapidly in the last few years, and we want to continue to expand our renewable energy capabilities to meet the demands of the company.”
The company built the Logan facility in 2015 with 972 solar modules that generated 311 kilowatts of energy. At the time of construction, the roof was reinforced with growth and expansion in mind.
The building’s current solar power production capacity of more than one gigawatt of electricity annually equates to the annual energy use of 104 homes and offsets the consumption of 110,647 gallons of natural gas, the company said.
